The article discusses approaches to an in-depth definition of the concept of "uncertainty". The interrelation and sequence of actions of the formation of an event in conditions of uncertainty has been clarified. Understanding the formation of uncertainty makes it possible to formulate a methodology for quantitative assessment of uncertainty, to identify factors that affect the production result of an enterprise and to develop recommendations for reducing possible losses in conditions of uncertainty.
